Rear Trunk Paint Action with Spray Can Coming Soon

I have a found a decent match for the SHO Titanium silver...Krylon Silver metallic wheel paint is a close enough match and I have already tested it.....I am going to repaint the rear sails first and see how I like it...if I decided it is close enough I will go ahead and paint the trunk as well and get rid of the rear end primer look. $6 in spray paint beats $650 at the paint shop! Who cares if it doesnt match...it is just a lousy car. Right? :D

Pictures as promised...fairly close match right out of the spray can! The most difficult part will be the trunk lid...it will be hard to spray without runs developing....I will spray with several thin coats for maximum coverage. Anything would look better than the primer...:)

Update: I painted the drivers side sail panel as you can see in the top picture. Overall better looking than primer and closer to the color of the car. It is a 20 footer. No runs in the paint but maintaining an even coat is next to impossible....I will really have to take my time and do a section at a time in the painting. More to come...

Got inspired to work on the Luv today!

I got inspired to work on the old Chevy Luv today. I have decided to stay with the stock steel wheels and stock dog dish caps. I took both wheels off the passenger side today and repainted the stock steel rim an antique white and clear coated it. The work really paid off and the wheels look like brand new as you can see in the pictures. The passenger side front tire has been flat for about 5 months now so I installed the spare tire until I get a new tire for the front. I am thinking about running E78-14 bias ply tires on the Luv for the older truck look which Coker offers but I will have to save some cash up. I might run the two new slot mag/radial tires in the rear and run two new bias ply tires in the front for now...I will have to purchase at least one coker E78-14 tire which will run me a cool $100. My Luv is a weekend warrior (run to Lowes truck) so I really do not need fancy tires on it...as long as they hold air and are reliable then that is good enough. A few pictures.....

New Lloyd interior floor mats

I received my new interior Lloyd custom fit floor mats today....I requested the clear mats and they look great! They fit like a glove and do not move around like the cheap black ones I bought a Pep boys! New mats really make an interior look nice!

Steam Cars! Thumbs up!

I managed to buy the MY CLASSIC CAR dvd on Ebay for a couple of dollars that features Jay Leno and some of his steam cars! In my opinion Jay Leno is definitely the pharaoh of unique orphan cars...his collection is rare and he is knowledgeable about his cars as well! I have a big interest in steam cars and might start collecting some of the memorablia for my automobilia collection. I will review the My Classic Car dvd soon and let you know what I think about it! Thumbs up for steam cars!

My Center Console is now Complete

Anyone who has an older car knows that missing interior pieces can be a bugger to find!!!! My center console has been missing the emergency brake access compartment door and one of the fold down center console arm toppers since I bought the car. I managed to salvage the needed pieces off a '89 center console I bought in a lot a few months back for $9.99. I bought a fairly large lot of '89 SHO interior parts two months ago and had forgotten about the center console until I was sitting at the Sonic today with my children and started thinking about it. It was a nice find seeing the pieces I needed on the old console! I transplated the pieces over to my car and now the console is 100% complete! Looks nice! Sorry for the crummy picture but the light was rather bad.

I slapped an old 1950s Camper emblem on my SHO....I liked the Star Trek appeal of it..:) Why? Why not?

Age of the Rubber Mallet

Well it was time to pound some on the SHO. Thanks to the driving of the prior owner my SHO has a nasty dent above the rear right wheel well! The dent was about 9 inches high and 5 inches across and was pushed in a good inch. I decided to jack the car up and remove the wheel and take a rubber mallet hammer to it....cheaper than taking it to the body shop and who really cares what it looks like as long as it is reliable and comfortable. After 30 minutes of pounding I managed to push out at least 60% of the dent...the undercoating was so incredibly thick that it really took some brute force. After all the work I now have 1 1/2" of clearance between the tire sidewall and the lip of the rear fender wheel versus 1/4"!!!!!!! I think it was a job well done...she is not going to win any car show awards but at least I can drive comfortably and not worry about it anymore! HAMMER TIME! A few pictures of the crime scene! NOte: The top picture is after the work and the bottom picture is before the work...quite a difference! I decided not to push my luck! :)

Vintage Tepee Camper hubcap Addition

I scored this unknown vintage tepee logo hubcap for the paultry sum of $5. I have no idea what this is off of but it is neat and has a nice patina to it! The seller said it came off a VW camper but I doubt that...I know a lot about Volkswagen and I have never seen one and I have practically seen it all in the VW scene. If you know what this is off of let me know. Right now I have it hanging on the wall of GregsGarage! Nice addition!

Wow! Altec Lansing 6x9s on Ebay $307.77!!!

Wow! A NOS set of Altec Lansing 6x9s went for over $307 on Ebay! I watched these all the way through and never placed a single bid because it jumped way up in price very quickly. I thought they might achieve around $50...they went well beyond that! Quality speakers though...probably from the early 80s.

Wow! Neat documentary on American Classic Cars in Cuba! Loads of sites and sounds from American iron to Cuban culture...lot of diversity in this documentary. Cubans are passionate about their cars. After watching this documentary I know that Cubans view their everyday transporation as something more than just a tool....it is a rolling piece of art! I really enjoyed this documentary and highly recommend it! I give it 5 stars!!!!!
